Dr. Yong Rui

Position: Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Yong Rui is currently Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Lenovo Group, overseeing Lenovo’s corporate technical strategy, research and development directions, and Lenovo’s corporate Research and Technology (R&T) organization, which covers intelligent devices, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud computing, 5G and smart lifestyle-related technologies.
Before joining Lenovo, Dr. Rui had an extremely distinguished 18-year career with Microsoft. As Deputy Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), he led multiple AI research groups and all of the labs engineering groups. From 2010 to 2012, he was GM of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D (ARD) China Innovation Group. He also held many other leadership positions within the company ranging from R&D strategy, basic research, to technology incubation and product development.
A Fellow of IEEE, IAPR and SPIE, and a Distinguished Scientist of ACM, Dr. Rui is recognized as a leading expert in his research areas. He holds 60 issued US and international patents, and was a recipient of the prestigious 2016 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Multimedia.
Dr. Rui received his BS from China’s Southeast University, his MS from Tsinghua University, and his PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He also holds a Microsoft Leadership Training Certificate from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania.
