CHICAGO, October 20, 2005 ... Lenovo today announced that E.L. Johnson Investigations, a Chicago-based provider of investigative services, estimates the company will save up to $60,000 per year in reduced support costs and user downtime by deploying ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops with ThinkVantage Technologies.
Limited by outdated technology, E.L. Johnson was experiencing decreased employee productivity and business profitability. With problems ranging from system crashes, computer freezes and virus attacks, the company's existing IT infrastructure required external technical support at $90 per hour. By using ThinkPad and ThinkCentre PCs with ThinkVantage Technologies from Lenovo provided through CDW, the company now reports a reduction in overtime, IT service costs and increased business efficiencies.

New notebook and desktop PCs from Lenovo have helped create new opportunities for E.L. Johnson's growth and success. ThinkPad T42 notebooks allow field agents to receive new case information packets and provide case status updates via the Internet. Scanned files are now uploaded into a searchable database that any authorized user can access from the offices or remotely through a Virtual Private Network connection. Employees can also download and transfer digital photos and use Global Position Satellite solutions on their computers to enable more logical drive routing, saving agents hours each day.
"Previously, our investigators on the streets couldn't communicate with the office very well. Now employees are using ThinkPad notebooks with mobile technology in the field to help save time and money," said Johnson. "Because we can scan documents in house, they reach our investigators sooner allowing us to produce a much faster turnaround."
In addition, ThinkCentre A50 Ultra Small Form Factor desktops and ThinkVision flat panel monitors from Lenovo improve productivity by allowing each employee to access client databases from their own desktop, where previously one office PC was shared for this task.
Access Connections, a ThinkVantage Technology available on the ThinkPad notebooks, will allow field agents and owners to more easily connect to the business outside the office. Another ThinkVantage Technology from Lenovo, Rescue and Recovery, will help protect users' data, allowing them to recover deleted or lost files, folders or even an entire previously-saved system image.
