Fuzhou Branch of the People’s Bank of China keeps up with growing demand with Lenovo and Nutanix

Overview
As a major regional hub for the People’s Bank of China, Fuzhou Branch must manage and process enormous volumes of data. To keep operations running smoothly, the branch replaced its aging Storage Area Network (SAN)-based infrastructure with three Lenovo Converged HX5510 appliances, powered by Intel® Xeon® processors and integrated with Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform software. The cutting-edge hyperconverged infrastructure platform delivers the scalability and reliability that Fuzhou Branch needs – without breaking the bank.

With the Lenovo-Nutanix platform, Fuzhou Branch gained the scalability and resilience it needs to keep up with ever-growing volumes of data streaming in from banks across Fujian Province.

An accredited agency of the People’s Bank of China, Fuzhou Branch of the People’s Bank of China is a bureau-level unit responsible for leading and supervising works such as currency policy, financial stability, financal services and foreign exchange administration in Fujian Province.

Time for change
As the major hub for the People’s Bank of China in the southeastern province of Fujian, huge volumes of transactional and customer data flow into Fuzhou Branch from smaller offices throughout the region. With data volumes growing all the time, Fuzhou Branch found its existing IT infrastructure struggling to cope.

Previously, Fuzhou Branch relied on a traditional SAN architecture to support its extensive virtualized environment. But with the hardware aging fast, failures and unplanned outages were not uncommon, and would interrupt operations. Storage performance problems and bottlenecks further impacted day-to-day operations.

At first, Fuzhou Branch planned to solve these challenges by purchasing new server and storage solutions. As well as requiring a large investment, the branch realized that simply upgrading its traditional architecture would only resolve the problems in the short term. Fuzhou Branch decided it was time for an all-new approach. The branch wanted a more flexible, robust IT infrastructure to keep key business systems running reliably.

Joining forces with Lenovo and Nutanix
After evaluating offerings from other vendors, Fuzhou Branch chose to implement a hyperconverged infrastructure from Lenovo and Nutanix. The branch implemented three Lenovo Converged HX5510 appliances, integrated with Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform, creating a single software-defined environment.

The hyperconverged nature of the Lenovo-Nutanix solution offers easy flexibility and significantly simplifies management. With a distributed architecture, the platform delivers strong resiliency. Linear scalability, meanwhile, ensures that Fuzhou Branch can add compute and storage capacity based on the speed of its business growth.

Underpinning operations
Moving to the high-density, efficient hyperconverged infrastructure from Lenovo and Nutanix has significantly reduced both capital expenditure and operating expenditure for Fuzhou Branch. As well as eliminating the need for the branch to invest in SAN storage, the integrated Nutanix software reduces hypervisor virtualization costs.

The Lenovo-Nutanix solution provides Fuzhou Branch with a cost-effective, ultra-reliable platform to support its critical business systems. Built-in disaster tolerance capabilities ensure that unplanned outages are a thing of the past.

Crucially, with the Lenovo-Nutanix platform, Fuzhou Branch gained the scalability and resilience it needs to keep up with ever-growing volumes of data streaming in from banks across Fujian Province – keeping operations running smoothly.
