I/OVision delivers professional IT services with hyperconverged infrastructure from Lenovo and Nutanix

Overview
To help meet growing client demand for IT professional support services, I/OVision decided to refresh its infrastructure. To boost performance, reliability and flexibility, I/OVision implemented an Intel® Xeon® processor-equipped Lenovo Converged HX3500 Series appliance with Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform software. With the Lenovo HX Series cluster in place, the company can be sure of delivering high-performance, reliable IT services that consistently meet or exceed clients’ expectations.

I/OVision is a specialized IT business enabler committed to optimizing its clients’ IT productivity for better business results. Delivering a wide range of services, from fully managed IT support, customized cloud computing, productivity solutions, and cyber security solutions to data backup and recovery services; I/OVision gives its clients a sustainable competitive edge. The company is headquartered in Burlington, Canada.

Giving clients more
To maintain the high level of service its clients have come to expect, I/OVision is always innovating. The company prides itself on harnessing the latest technology to continuously improve and expand its service offerings.

David Stitt, Director, Sales & Marketing at I/OVision, begins: “Many of our clients, including manufacturing, transportation and logistics companies, rely on their IT systems running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If any of the platforms running their systems were to go down, it would have an immediate impact on their bottom line. We provide comprehensive IT support services that help reduce the risk of downtime and minimize the impact on business should disaster strike.”

Matthew Hache, Client Solutions Architect at I/OVision, adds: “We also provide clients with a wide range of IT productivity and security solutions, covering everything from email, calendar and collaboration tools to cybersecurity. To ensure that we continue delivering round-the-clock IT support services, we decided to refresh the infrastructure running these solutions.”

Teaming up with Lenovo and Nutanix
After discussing IT strategy with its Lenovo partner, I/OVision chose to implement a hyperconverged infrastructure.

Matthew Hache recalls: “We shopped around and evaluated hyperconverged offerings from other vendors, but the combination of Lenovo and Nutanix solutions stood out from the crowd. Not only did the combined offering meet all of our requirements in terms of availability, reliability and performance, it also offered the best value.

“What’s more, Nutanix is a pioneer in the hyperconverged space, so we knew that we’d have an advanced team supporting us. Having worked with Lenovo for more than 10 years, we already knew that Lenovo would provide top-notch support.”

Working closely with teams from Lenovo and Nutanix, I/OVision implemented a three-node Lenovo Converged HX3500 appliance integrated with Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform software, creating a single software-defined environment. Powered by the Intel® Xeon® E5 processor family, the Lenovo hardware delivers the high levels of performance needed to support the company’s diverse workloads.

I/OVision takes advantage of the integrated Nutanix software stack to support operations, as Matthew Hache explains: “With Nutanix Prism, monitoring the cluster is a piece of cake. We can manage everything from the compute and storage infrastructure via a single pane of glass. Prism also sends us automated health alerts and growth pattern predictions, which enables us to take a more proactive approach to IT management.”

Supercharging services
Today, I/OVision runs 90 percent of client solutions and services on the Lenovo HX cluster. By pooling compute and storage resources into a single virtual structure, the Lenovo-Nutanix solution offers easy flexibility and scalability.

Matthew Hache remarks: “We’ve seen a huge increase in performance. Where previously it would take 20 seconds or more to load a report, it now takes just half a second. We’ve seen employee productivity increase thanks to these near-instant loading times, which results in a more efficient service for our clients.”

David Stitt comments: “Based on our success with the Lenovo-Nutanix solution, we recommend the HX Series cluster to clients when we’re asked to design and implement their IT infrastructure. The first client for whom we’ve deployed a hyperconverged solution is the Six Nations Polytechnic.”

Advancing Indigenous Education
The Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is an Indigenous owned and operated education and training institution. SNP offers degree, diploma and development courses to all eligible learners and to all that wish to study Hodinohso:ni languages. SNP is dedicated to empowering future leaders and innovators with the knowledge and skills they need to get on in life, while creating understanding about Indigenous Peoples and preserving the languages and culture of Canada’s most populous First Nation – Six Nations of the Grand River.

Linda Parker, Director of Institutional Advancement & Brantford Campus Manager at SNP, elaborates: “SNP’s unique mission is the preservation, application and creation of knowledge specific to Six Nations languages, culture and knowledge while respectfully interacting and informing other knowledge systems.”

Having recently opened a new campus in Brantford, Ontario, SNP is anticipating a huge increase in students and course registrations, and turned to I/OVision to help support this growth.

Linda Parker recalls: “I/OVision blew the competition out of the water. The team’s understanding and appreciation of our needs as an educational institution has been so impressive. They didn’t just deliver a cookie-cutter solution, they designed an IT infrastructure and service pack that would meet our very specific requirements – now and in the future.”

Nathan Jamieson, Information Systems Manager at SNP, remarks: “With the Lenovo-Nutanix solution, we can quickly scale our environment as the number of students grows. We’re also working with I/OVision to deploy a document management and storage system to house over 23 years’ worth of SNP data.”

Linda Parker notes: “It’s crucial that we preserve as much of our heritage as we can, but we need the right infrastructure in place to do that. I/OVision is working with us to support our platform for research and knowledge sharing at Deyohahá:ge – also known as the Indigenous Knowledge Center. I/OVision always goes above and beyond, and we appreciate the team’s expertise concerning data ownership.”

David Stitt comments: “Supported by our own Lenovo HX cluster, SNP can rely on us to keep their IT productivity and security solutions running smoothly. We’ve very proud to support SNP and the great work they’re doing to change First Nations students’ lives for the better.”

He concludes: “The Lenovo HX Series solution powered by Nutanix software enables us to deliver reliable IT services that meet all our clients’ varied needs. The Lenovo-Nutanix solution is a real feather in our cap, helping us to deliver exceptional IT services.”
