For young people considering what comes next, seeing possibilities firsthand can make all the difference.

On August 21, Lenovo welcomed 54 middle and high school students participating in the Nate McMillan Foundation’s mentoring camp to its Morrisville, North Carolina, campus for Lenovo Career Day. Through conversations with Lenovo leaders and hands-on technology experiences, students had the chance to explore the people, ideas and career opportunities behind a global technology company.

“Experiences like this can be powerful because they make the future feel more real. When young people can walk through our doors, meet people working in technology and see the many paths a career can take, it helps them recognize that those opportunities can be within their reach. We were proud to welcome the Nate McMillan Foundation campers to Lenovo and share a little of what is possible,” said Cheo Johnson, Lenovo.

The day began with an executive career panel featuring Johnson, Benjamin Bennett, and Jason Mudd. Students heard directly from Lenovo leaders about their personal career journeys, the lessons they have learned along the way and the many kinds of roles that contribute to a technology company’s success.

“My favorite activity actually today was listening to the executives talk about how they got here and where they came from,” said camper Zaire Hennesey.

From there, the group rotated through experiences designed to make technology more tangible. At Lenovo’s Executive Briefing Center, students explored a product showcase and learned more about the technology Lenovo creates. A Server 101 session offered an introduction to the infrastructure powering the digital world, while a Legion gaming demonstration gave students a closer look at technology in action.

“This is our second time coming to Lenovo and it is a blessing for them to bring us out here again, give us a tour, and for the kids to get this experience in learning technology, and show them the opportunities they have,” said Foundation founder Nate McMillan.

Lenovo has supported this initiative over the years by welcoming Nate McMillan Foundation campers to campus and connecting them with Lenovo people, technology and the wide range of careers within the industry. While the experiences may be new for many students, the goal is simple: help broaden their view of what could be possible.

By the end of the day, the students had not only seen technology up close but also met people whose stories could help them picture a future in fields they may not yet have considered. The foundation encourages your support to give back to the community. Learn more about how to get involved.
