Lenovo announced today that Sergio Buniac, SVP and Motorola President, will move into a new role leading the Lenovo Latin America sales geography across all devices and infrastructure, effective July 1, 2026. In July, Sergio will transition his current responsibilities as Motorola President to Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo Intelligent Devices, who will act as interim until a new successor is appointed. This move is part of the company’s longer-term leadership succession plan and reflects its continued focus on innovation and global growth.
As Lenovo Latin America President, Sergio will focus on driving closer alignment across Lenovo’s business groups to strengthen go-to-market execution, deepen customer engagement, and enhance competitiveness across the region.
After 30 years in the company, largely spent in sales, marketing, and supply chain leadership roles throughout Latin America, and 8 years leading the smartphone business globally, this move is a natural leadership evolution to accelerate the company’s ambitions and growth opportunities in Latin America.
While serving as Motorola Global President, he maintained his relationship with Latin America, remaining close to local teams, customers, and market dynamics throughout the past five years. This presence, combined with his experience leading Motorola globally, has given him a deep understanding of regional dynamics. Building on that foundation, his vision for Artificial Intelligence enabled Lenovo to stand out in the mobile AI era. This transition will allow the company to continue evolving its Hybrid AI strategy, ensuring the organization is fully prepared to tackle the AI.
“Sergio brings a unique combination of global leadership experience and deep regional insight, his leadership will help us move faster, compete even more effectively, and deliver greater value across the region.” said Matt Zielinski, EVP and President, International Markets, Lenovo. “This shift in Latin America marks a significant milestone in strengthening how we go to market globally, operate as one team, and deliver for our customers and partners.”
“Leading our mobile business has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I am proud of Motorola’s momentum. I am energized by the opportunities ahead and to see where we can take our company next,” said Sergio Buniac. “With AI moving into real-world deployment, customers expect results. A strong foundation, full stack portfolio and global reach set us apart, enabling us to accelerate Lenovo growth in the region and continue delivering meaningful experiences to our customers.”
Lenovo will continue to leverage the strong foundation of the Motorola brand to continue elevating Lenovo’s unique ecosystem across the industry’s widest portfolio. As AI’s impact grows exponentially, smartphones are critical to our AI ecosystem advantage, Lenovo is excited to bring on a new Motorola President to lead the company through the AI era while championing innovation that builds our smartphone leadership worldwide.
About Sergio Buniac
Sergio was appointed Lenovo Mobile Business senior vice president and Motorola president in February 2018. Motorola experienced its most significant turnaround under Sergio’s leadership. Within two quarters of taking on the Motorola President role, Sergio led Motorola to breakeven profitability, and within a year, the business was breakeven in every geography. Under his leadership, Motorola reduced product development cycle time by nearly 30%, while improving quality and achieving the lowest warranty rates since the Lenovo acquisition. He also helped the brand reclaim its DNA of iconic design and courageous innovation, and reinvigorated the brand’s premium franchises, which now account for 40% of Motorola revenue. Sergio ushered in an era of lifestyle tech for Motorola, with partnerships like Pantone, Bose, and Swarovski, while also spearheading AI smartphone advancements. Prior to his global role, Sergio held various leadership roles within the company, including GM of Motorola Latin America, where he led business strategy and operations in the region.
