Baku, Azerbaijan – AzInTelecom LLC, a company of AZCON Holding, and the state cloud provider, has launched the first Supercomputer Center in Azerbaijan, built on Lenovo ThinkSystem High Performance Computing servers.

The High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster has been designed to accelerate the country’s advancement in the field of AI and promote digital transformation in accordance with the Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028.

By processing data locally within Azerbaijan, the new supercomputer center strengthens data sovereignty while delivering tangible benefits for citizens. Critical workloads – from AI-powered public services and Azerbaijani-language digital platforms to cybersecurity analytics and national research – can now be developed, trained and run securely in-country. This approach improves service responsiveness, protects sensitive information, and ensures that AI innovation directly supports the needs, trust and digital inclusion of the Azerbaijani population.

“The establishment of the Supercomputer Center is strategically important for the development of the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. The Center will serve as critical technological infrastructure for processing of large-scale data and supporting the fast operation of artificial intelligence models,” said Elkhan Azizov Chief Executive Officer of AzInTelecom. “The Lenovo infrastructure solution allows us to develop local AI projects domestically without reliance on external resources. At the same time, it enables a more secure environment for the processing state-owned data, to strengthening Azerbaijan’s competitiveness in the field of AI across the region.”

A Foundation for Secure, In-Country AI Innovation

The new Supercomputer Center combines extreme computing power, high-speed data movement and enterprise-grade reliability. Its architecture has been purpose-built to train, run and scale advanced AI models securely in-country, enabling faster public services, stronger cybersecurity, and innovation.

Following the public tender process, AzInTelecom selected Lenovo to design and deploy a high-performance AI supercomputer capable of supporting the country’s most demanding AI workloads. The AI HPC cluster is built on Lenovo ThinkSystem servers with Intel x86- based CPU and NVIDIA reference architecture, optimized for large-scale AI training, fine-tuning, and high-performance inference workloads.

The system delivers the computing capacity required to train and deploy very large AI models quickly and efficiently, even when working with complex, data-intensive applications. This allows organisations in Azerbaijan to process vast datasets, improve AI accuracy and shorten the time from development to real-world deployment – turning insights into action faster for businesses, citizens and public services.

A dedicated management environment ensures the AI platform operates reliably, securely and continuously. This orchestration layer supports monitoring, scheduling and lifecycle management across the entire infrastructure, helping ensure that AI-powered services remain available, resilient and ready to support national priorities.

Built for Performance at National Scale

The AI supercomputer comprises Lenovo ThinkSystem SR680a V3 servers equipped with NVIDIA H200 GPUs.

High-speed NVIDIA InfiniBand NDR networking (400 Gb/s) enables efficient scaling across nodes, while a dedicated management cluster of five Lenovo ThinkSystem SR630 V3 servers provides orchestration, monitoring and lifecycle management.

High-performance AI-optimized storage ensures data can be accessed and processed without bottlenecks, even during intensive AI training. The cluster’s data storage and processing are delivered by a DDN AI400X2 system purpose-built for AI workloads, supporting sustained high-throughput access for large-scale training.

The platform is powered by NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and is supported by Lenovo Premier Support, ensuring a secure, stable and fully supported environment for production-grade AI operations.

Global AI Leadership Supporting Azerbaijan’s Digital Future

Lenovo supported the project end-to-end, from system deployment and knowledge transfer to ongoing technical support. This ensures the new supercomputer center can be operated efficiently, maintained over time and evolved to meet future AI demands as national needs grow.

“At Lenovo, we are committed to accelerating the global adoption of AI by bringing intelligence to the data – where and when it’s needed most. This commitment is underpinned by our leadership in high-performance computing and deep understanding of infrastructure requirements for transformative AI deployments,” said Rasim Bakhshi, Director of Lenovo Global Technology Azerbaijan LLC. “With the industry’s most comprehensive AI portfolio spanning 80+ products purpose-built for AI workloads, and strategic partnerships with leading chipset, hardware, software, and services providers including NVIDIA, DDN, and Intel, Lenovo delivers complete AI solutions from edge to datacenter to cloud. This hybrid approach empowers organizations to innovate with confidence while maintaining full control over data sovereignty and security. The Supercomputer Center in Azerbaijan exemplifies this philosophy, where cutting-edge AI infrastructure supports nation-critical research, education, and digital transformation without compromising data protection or operational autonomy.”

By combining global supercomputing expertise and leadership with in-country infrastructure, Lenovo and AzInTelecom are helping Azerbaijan turn advanced AI capability into trusted, real-world outcomes for its economy and citizens.
