• The 2027 MotoGP World Championship technical regulations required Ducati Corse to redesign the Desmosedici GP bike while continuing to develop its 2026 bike
  • Lenovo, Title and Technology Partner of the Ducati Lenovo Team, has provided Ducati Corse with an expanded High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, enabling more complex simulations and faster workflows
  • 3D engine CFD simulation times have been cut by 50% and structural analysis times by 30

Bringing the partnership to life, Lenovo’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure is playing a pivotal role for Ducati Corse’s approach to the design and development of the 2027 Desmosedici GP bike.

The new 2027 MotoGP regulations mark the biggest technical reset in MotoGP for over a decade, resulting in Ducati Corse needing a fresh approach to every major element of its 2027 Desmosedici GP bike, from engine to aerodynamics, while still optimizing this season’s bike to remain competitive in the fight for the 2026 MotoGP World Championship.

This complex challenge of managing two different development programs at the same time meant Ducati Corse needed to expand its HPC infrastructure, turning to its technology partner, Lenovo, for support.

The upgraded infrastructure now delivers over 108 TFLOPS of combined theoretical double-precision computing performance. Compared to the previous generation of compute nodes, the latest expansion roughly doubled the available memory and added around 48% more processing power.

This increased capacity has enabled Ducati’s engineers to perform multiple engine and aerodynamic simulations simultaneously and evaluate a wider range of design configurations virtually. This approach has proved particularly critical in developing the all-new 850cc engine.

By halving computation times for 3D engine CFD simulations and reducing them by 30% for structural analysis, it has also allowed Ducati Corse the confidence to go to the prototype stage only with the most promising designs, significantly reducing development time and manufacturing costs while increasing accuracy and reliability.

With on-track testing limited by MotoGP’s concessions system, simulation and predictive engineering also play a key role in the bike’s aerodynamic development. The enhanced HPC infrastructure enables Ducati engineers to run increasingly sophisticated – and therefore more computationally demanding – simulation models, providing a more accurate representation of real-world conditions and a deeper understanding of the impact of aerodynamics on overall vehicle performance.

“Our partnership with Ducati Corse demonstrates how advanced technologies and high-performance computing can accelerate engineering innovation in one of the world’s most demanding environments,” commented Ashley Gorakhpurwalla, EVP and President, Infrastructure Solutions Group at Lenovo. “By expanding the team’s HPC infrastructure, Lenovo’s technology is enabling faster simulations, more informed decisions and a more efficient development process to help Ducati Corse continue driving innovation in a new era of MotoGP.”

“Lenovo has once again played a vital role in supporting us with the technology to optimize the design and engineering process of the bike,” commented Davida Barana, Technical Director at Ducati Corse. “This is particularly important this year, as we need the computational power to finalize the design of our next-generation Desmosedici GP as well as continue developing the 2026 bike during the season in our fight for the Championship. Advanced computing and data analysis are therefore playing a critical role in accelerating development for both these programs.”

The latest HPC expansion further strengthens the technology partnership between Lenovo and Ducati Corse, helping the team to tackle increasingly complex development challenges while remaining competitive on track. Thanks to Lenovo’s technology, Ducati Corse is well equipped to face one of the biggest engineering challenges the sport has seen in recent years.
