ATLANTA , April 19, 2005 – IBM today announced that Havertys Furniture, a full-service home furnishings retailer, has deployed ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops with ThinkVantage Technologies throughout its enterprise for increased data protection and superior customer service.

With a corporate mission focused on customer satisfaction, Havertys’ employees must be able to access customer information easily and in a timely manner. Employees are equipped with ThinkPad T41 and T42 notebook computers including select models with integrated fingerprint readers, providing them advanced mobility, security and wireless connectivity for working with customers and suppliers in the office or at offsite locations. In addition, call center supervisors using ThinkCentre S50 desktops have the reliability and robust computing capabilities to effectively multitask and access information to quickly assist with customer questions and support.

“Our computing needs extend beyond simply word processing and maintaining databases,” said Pat Zurica, director, Technical Services, Havertys Furniture. “Utilizing IBM’s ThinkVantage Technologies such as Rescue and Recovery and Access Connections help improve employee productivity and make our operations more efficient and secure, which translates to better customer service. Other vendors that we have worked with don’t offer the functionality, reliability and long-term return on investment of ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops.”

Rescue and Recovery, a one-button recovery solution that helps protect against a system software failure, and Access Connections, a utility that allows users to easily switch between wireless and wired network settings, enable Havertys’ employees to quickly deploy, connect, protect and support their PCs. Another ThinkVantage Technology, the Embedded Security Subsystem with Client Security Software, is a hardware- and software-based technology that encrypts vital security information. Coupled with integrated fingerprint readers on select models, the system provides layered PC security to help protect data from unauthorized access.
