ThinkPad X1 Laptop Wins Prestigious iF Design Award

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – November 8, 2011: Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) today announced that iF has selected the ThinkPad X1 laptop for the prestigious iF Product Design Award for 2012 in the computer category. iF selected the ThinkPad X1 laptop out of nearly 3,000 entries for its design quality, finish, choice of materials, innovation, environmental impact, functionality, ergonomics and brand value among other aspects.
“We’ve received an overwhelming response from our customers on the ThinkPad X1’s balance of business-class performance and consumer-focused features all combined in a very thin and light design,” said David Hill, vice president, corporate identity and design, Lenovo. “This recognition by iF reconfirms our commitment to pushing the envelope on design innovation.”
As Lenovo’s thinnest ThinkPad, the X1 laptop measures less than 17 mm, approximately the height of a U.S. penny. Packed into the ultra-thin form factor are choices of second generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, typically offered on larger 14 and 15-inch laptops. Starting at only 3.7 pounds, the ThinkPad X1 laptop feels incredibly light and sturdy thanks to its interior roll cage and magnesium chassis. The laptop’s 13.3-inch glossy screen includes Corning® Gorilla® Glass for extra durability and scratch resistance. Also, with Lenovo’s RapidCharge battery technology the battery charges up to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

The ThinkPad X1 laptop’s modern-style, spill resistant keyboard retains the touch, feel and function of the classic ThinkPad keyboard experience. While eliminating some legacy keys, it also retains rich functionality such as dedicated multimedia controls. The ThinkPad X1 laptop crosses over beyond business performance for a great consumer experience with rich and resonant Dolby Home Theater v4 sound, a high definition display, HDMI port and Intel Wireless Display technology. Using its optional mobile broadband, 720p camera, high definition microphones and advanced calling modes, the laptop delivers clear video calls.
For 58 years, the iF product design award has been an internationally recognized label for award-winning design and the iF brand has become a symbol for outstanding achievements in design. Today, iF is represented in Hannover and Munich (Germany), Taiwan, Korea and Brazil. The jury has already selected the 60 iF gold awards – the special recognition for the very best designs – from all winners of an iF product design award 2012. They will be announced on 10 February 2012 during the awards ceremony in Munich (Germany).
