September 3, 2008: Lenovo announced today that Lenovo Hope Fund grants totaling approximately $80,000 in cash and equipment have been distributed to 35 non-profit organizations. The Lenovo Hope Fund supports charitable organizations worldwide that are founded by Lenovo employees or where Lenovo employees have taken an active volunteer role.
“As Lenovo increases its presence worldwide, we are developing strong relationships with the communities where we work and have established a fund to help our employees fuel their charitable work,? said Deepak Advani, chief marketing officer, Lenovo. “We are committed to donating one percent of our profits worldwide to charitable causes, and the Lenovo Hope Fund allows our employees to be more directly involved in that effort.”

Special Olympics of North Carolina (SONC) provides more than 16,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the state with the opportunity to participate in sports training and competition. “Lenovo has provided Special Olympics with important funding and volunteers, which makes them a wonderful partner,” said Keith L. Fishburne, president/CEO of Special Olympics North Carolina. The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation is a U.S. organization dedicated to finding cures for and providing information and support to people affected by Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP). Jeff Witt, a Lenovo employee who together with his wife created the Magnificent Mile run fundraiser for SPF, said, ?Running for those who can no longer run is a tremendous gift. Hope Web Design was started by California-based Lenovo employees to provide personalized web sites to children battling cancer to empower communication between family members and friends.
