Purchase, NY, Aug. 17, 2005 — Lenovo Group Ltd. today announced the appointment of James P. Shaughnessy as senior vice president and general counsel. He reports directly to Steve Ward, CEO, and is responsible for the company’s legal, corporate governance, security and government relations activities globally. Shaughnessy, 50, was most recently senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at PeopleSoft, where he was a key advisor to PeopleSoft’s Board of Directors as it responded to Oracle Corp.’s unsolicited tender offer for PeopleSoft. Prior to PeopleSoft, Shaughnessy was vice president and deputy general counsel at Hewlett-Packard and, before that, Compaq Computer Corp., where he managed both companies’ international legal operations. He started his career in the technology field with Digital Equipment Corp., where he was responsible for a range of the company’s legal affairs, including litigation, compliance and antitrust activities. Earlier in his career he was in private practice in Washington D.C. with Hogan & Hartson and Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine.

“Jim brings a wealth of global legal affairs experience in both the PC and IT sectors to our senior leadership team,” Ward said. “I look forward to working with Jim and receiving the benefit of his counsel.” Shaughnessy holds both Juris Doctor and Masters of Public Policy degrees from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University.
