Hong Kong, August 16, 2005 — John William Barter III has been named as an independent non-executive director of Lenovo Group Limited (HKSE:992; ADR: LNVGY), effective August 10, 2005.

“John Barter brings a wealth of business insight and technology experience to the Lenovo board of directors,” said Yuanqing Yang, chairman of Lenovo. “His strategic advice and contributions will be welcome, as we continue with our integration and our plans to grow the new Lenovo’s business globally and in new segments of the PC industry.”

Mr. Barter, 58, has acquired extensive knowledge and experience in finance and accounting from senior management positions held in both the industrial and technology sectors. Between 1977 and 1997 he held a number of senior management positions with AlliedSignal, Inc. Between 1998 and 2001 he was a director and from 2000 to 2001, the chief financial officer of Kestrel Solutions, Inc. a company engaged in the development of communications equipment.

Mr. Barter is currently a non-executive director of several technology companies: BMC Software, Inc., Bottomline Technologies, Inc.; SRA International, Inc.; SSA Global Technologies, Inc.; and Gecis Global Holdings Inc. He is also a director of the Charleston Education Network and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He holds a B.S. in Physics from Spring Hill College (1968) and an MBA in Finance from Tulane University (1973). Mr. Barter’s appointment brings the number of independent non-executive directors on the Lenovo board to four, and the total number of directors to 12.
