RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – May 15, 2007 – Hospice of the Valley, one of the nation’s oldest and largest not-for-profit hospices, is deploying 450 Lenovo ThinkPad X60 and X41 Tablet PCs throughout its operations to help enhance patient care. The Lenovo Tablet PCs allow hospice staff to focus on providing the highest levels of care and support for patients and their families while providing quick and secure access to information for improved efficiency.
“Our priority is to continuously deliver the highest possible levels of patient care and support,” said Mark Dempt, chief information officer for Hospice of the Valley. “We work in different environments – from our offices and local hospitals to patients’ homes. With the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet PCs, we have critical patient information at our fingertips, and that allows us to make the most informed decisions. Also in using the Tablet PCs, we have seen the amount of time spent on paperwork drop, and that gives us more time to spend engaging with our patients.”
Doctors, nurses, social workers and admissions coordinators use the Lenovo Tablet PCs to quickly and easily access patient data from any location on the hospice IT network. For example, the Tablet PCs enable them to access medical history, medications, current pain level and other vital patient information from the database, like a real-time medical chart. They also use the keyboard-to-writing slate functionality along with Lenovo’s Active Rotate dynamic screen rotation as a more personal way of using technology to interact with patients. Lenovo’s Tablet PCs work seamlessly with the Cerner BeyondNow™ RoadNotes® software, the organization’s point-of-care software system to provide up-to-date coordinated information for billing, scheduling and reporting.
“Lenovo designs its Tablet PCs to meet the unique requirements of users who need the latest mobile technologies along with the flexibility of digital notetaking, all in one device,” said Michael Kuptz, vice president and general manager, Lenovo United States. “By continually improving wireless, security, reliability and usability, Lenovo is setting the standard for Tablet PC users in mobile environments like healthcare, insurance and sales.”
In a medical environment, keeping sensitive patient information confidential is a priority. The Lenovo Tablet PCs offer high speed mobile broadband 1 that enables hospice employees to easily access their wireless networks. This highly pervasive and secure wireless broadband connection eliminates the need for traditional WiFi hotspots and provides an additional layer of security with technology that encrypts each wireless transmission. The Tablet PCs are also equipped with integrated fingerprint readers, enabling employees to quickly and securely access the network and applications without the need to remember passwords.
