Empowering industrial and technological innovation in Chongqing
Beijing, August 29, 2019 – During the 2nd Smart China Expo (SCE), Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang announced that the company signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Chongqing Municipal Government.
Lenovo will invest in the construction of the 5G Cloud Network Convergence Headquarters in Chongqing, including the 5G Business and Program Headquarters which will employ more than 1,500 employees in the next five years. In the future, Lenovo will build a 5G R&D, application, delivery and demonstration center, and plans to build a 5G intelligent equipment manufacturing base based on the local business development.
In addition, Lenovo will create a national-level joint laboratory in Chongqing to build an information technology talent training system that combines production, education and research. Lenovo will also work with Chongqing to demonstrate how an industrial-based city collaborates with business in bringing intelligence to seven areas including: manufacturing, transportation, and parking.

SCE focuses on “Smart Technology: Empowering Economy, Enriching Life”, and examines the latest global advancements in intelligent technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, cloud computing and 5G. Lenovo has built expertise in investing and deploying in the 5G area with applications for more than 500 patents in 5G standards. Lenovo released the first 5G smart phone and plans to be the first company in the industry to release 5G PCs.
