RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., November 14, 2005 — Lenovo today announced that future versions of ThinkCentre M52 desktops will support Intel® Virtualization Technology, a silicon technology that allows PC platforms to run multiple applications and operating systems simultaneously in independent partitions, to better help users manage and protect the multi-functional capabilities of PCs. Lenovo is offering a pilot program for customers who want to test this new technology.

Using ThinkCentre desktops from Lenovo supporting Intel® Virtualization Technology, users can employ one PC as multiple “virtual” systems to improve computer manageability and information security. Equipped with Rescue and Recovery™, a ThinkVantage Technology that helps protect against data loss due to a system software failure, ThinkCentre M52 desktops supporting Intel® Virtualization Technology will offer an even more secure environment to diagnose, get help and recover from viruses or spy-ware.

“The combination of our ThinkVantage Technologies and Intel’s Virtualization Technology will create an unprecedented level of secure computing for users as well as the IT organization,” said Bob Galush, vice president, Desktop Marketing, Lenovo. “In this secure environment, an IT administrator can use the technologies to monitor the health of the user’s system and protect the PC from an attack by a virus.”

System administrators can help protect desktops using Rescue and Recovery™ and Intel® Virtualization Technology by filtering traffic through a separate IT partition or “container” before any malicious code or viruses reach the user. Other benefits include the ability to configure desktops to function independently in virtual partitions as both a business and personal system, keeping software applications, personal settings and virus attacks separate.

In addition, business users can isolate and maintain full control of a portion of their PC to perform tasks, such as virus scans and system upgrades, without interruption or performance degradation. Configuring multiple partitions on a PC also improves manageability for maintaining legacy applications while testing and adopting new operating systems.

“By working extensively with PC innovators, notably those at Lenovo, Intel® Virtualization Technology will be a robust solution that takes client security to a new level,” said Robert Crooke, vice president, Intel Digital Enterprise Group, and general manager, Business Client Group. “Intel’s Virtualization Technology, along with supporting software such as ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery, significantly improves client security and cuts system downtime while lowering operational costs for businesses of all sizes.”

Select ThinkCentre M52 desktops also incorporate Intel® Active Management Technology, a hardware-integrated solution supporting advanced PC asset management that can be used to optimize the functionality of ThinkVantage Technologies from Lenovo. Using these tools in conjunction enables remote access and inventory of ThinkCentre M52 desktops even if the systems are powered down, or the operating system is not responding. These innovative solutions can enhance the effectiveness of asset deployment and management as well as decrease costs from system downtime and otherwise necessary onsite IT support.
