Lenovo Named to World’s 100 Most Sustainable Corporations Index

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, January 27, 2015 – Lenovo (HK: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) today announced that is has been selected for inclusion in Corporate Knights 2015 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (Global 100) Index.  As a result, starting February 1, Lenovo will now be included as a constituent stock in the Global 100 Index that is widely tracked by global sustainability investors and investment funds. The index, which commenced on February 1, 2005, is available on Bloomberg under the ticker <CKG100 Index> and on Reuters under the ticker <.CKG100>.

The extensive annual global list ranks large corporations based on their environmental, social and corporate governance performance using 12 quantitative sustainability indicators, including energy and water consumption, CEO-to-worker pay ratios, and board and management diversity. With a ranking of 73, this marks Lenovo’s first inclusion on the list and Lenovo is the only company with roots in mainland China ranked in the Top 100 this year.

“We noticed over the past few years a rising number of companies with mainland China roots that are reporting on their sustainability performance,” said Toby A.A. Heaps, Corporate Knights CEO.  “This is an indication that such companies are more and more integrating sustainability into their operations; the inclusion of a company like Lenovo is a clear illustration of this rising trend.”

Compiled by Toronto-based media and research company Corporate Knights, the list evaluates the sustainability of 4,600 global companies with market capitalization of more than $2-billion (U.S), then cuts the list down to about 900 firms. The finalists are then compared with others in their industry category in determining the listing of the top 100 global corporations.

“We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to building a more sustainable future,” said Yang Yuanqing, Chairman and CEO, Lenovo. “This inclusion is a true testament of our progress, as we continue to build a company that will make our customers, investors and employees proud.”

Lenovo’s corporate sustainability philosophy was showcased in its recently released 8th annual sustainability report which adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 standard. Key initiatives Lenovo is implementing to create a more sustainable future include:

  • A multi-year effort to provide students with resources to encourage the pursuit of science, technology engineering and mathematics disciplines.
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on Lenovo’s ten-year initiative to reduce Scope 2 emissions.
  • Supporting social investment programs targeting education, entrepreneurship, disaster relief and regional community outreach through The Next Generation Hope Fund.
  • Involvement in the United Nations Global Compact, with principles covering human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
