Lenovo Sharpens PC Blade Computing with ClearCube Technology

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., and AUSTIN, TEXAS — July 11, 2005 — Lenovo and ClearCube Technology, today announced that Lenovo will market and sell ClearCube-branded PC blades and management software. Lenovo customers, particularly those in the financial services, healthcare and government industries, will now have the option to use ClearCube PC blade technology.

PC blades provide users with desktop functionality from a centralized environment, an approach that according to the IDC white paper “The Tangible Benefits of Blade Clients” (April, 2005) can save time, space and money. IDC also noted that ClearCube enables greater security and easier, more centralized remote PC management. By deploying ClearCube PC blades, customers can consistently reduce downtime, deploy stronger data and physical security, and significantly decrease their total cost of ownership, while providing end users with the same one-to-one PC experience they expect.

“The addition of PC blades from ClearCube into our Think product portfolio expands our solutions from the end-user’s desk to the data center,” said Bob Galush, vice president, product marketing, Lenovo. “This announcement demonstrates our ongoing dedication to supply our business customers with the strongest, most innovative PC solutions on the market.”

The ClearCube solution allows companies to take the computer off the user’s desk, shrink it to a PC blade and centralize the blades in a secure location. User ports that sit at the desk are either directly connected or dynamically allocated to PC blades in the data center based on each user’s specific needs. Lenovo customers will be able to select the PC blade configuration that works best for them and with the ClearCube Management Suite, will be able to remotely manage and control a global desktop deployment.

“The PC Blade is an innovative desktop solution that marks the first real re-think of the corporate desktop in the past 20 years,” said Carl Boisvert, president and CEO of ClearCube. “ClearCube PC Blades, combined with Lenovo’s strong sales and marketing presence, will enable us to jointly deliver solutions that better meet our customer’s needs globally.”

The IDC white paper* concludes that ClearCube deployments delivered a 40 percent reduction in operating costs. In addition, these customers also saw sizable increases in security, manageability, and overall availability.
