Lenovo ThinkVantage Technologies Extend Windows Vista Enterprise Experience

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – November 30, 2006 – Lenovo today announced the integration of its ThinkVantage Technologies (TVTs) with Microsoft’s Windows Vista™ Enterprise to give business professionals the highest levels of PC system recovery, wireless connectivity and security. Lenovo’s award-winning TVTs, a complete suite of PC productivity tools, will empower business users by extending the performance and capabilities of Windows Vista.

“The combination of Windows Vista and ThinkVantage Technologies will simply give users the best computing experience,” said Deepak Advani, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of Lenovo. “We took our experience and history of creating innovative TVTs and worked with Microsoft to integrate these powerful technologies with the Vista operating system.”

With Lenovo’s new TVTs optimized for Windows Vista Enterprise, Lenovo embraces and extends the capabilities of the new operating system to address system recovery, wireless connectivity and security. Businesses will be able to realize the full value of TVTs when they are deployed with an Enterprise Management Console, such as Microsoft’s System Management Server 2003. Through this platform, businesses can distribute the TVTs across the PC fleet and manage specific TVT functions, enabling both end-users and IT administrators to increase their productivity and achieve the lowest cost of PC ownership.

Lenovo to the Rescue with Full Detection, Protection and Recovery Lenovo’s ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery extends upon Windows Vista protection with a fully-integrated tool that restores a PC to its previous working state even if the operating system will not boot. Rescue and Recovery helps users diagnose, receive immediate help and recover systems from catastrophic software failures caused by viruses and malware.

During the upgrade process, users can create a backup image of their Lenovo system to an external optical drive or hard disk. If the upgrade fails, they can recover at the touch of a button.

“Our 200 attorneys are able to handle clients’ issues around-the-clock and from any location because of reliable access to information using ThinkVantage Technologies on their ThinkPad notebooks,” said Gary Osborne, director of IT at Calfee, Halter and Griswold, a law firm based in Cleveland, Ohio. “Lenovo has demonstrated its commitment to our long-term success by developing innovative tools that can evolve with our needs – namely keeping our mobile network of PCs flexible, easy-to-use and secure. Using Lenovo PCs, I am confident that our employees have the best tools available to provide the highest level of client service.”

Access Everything, Anywhere Lenovo also has integrated ThinkVantage Access Connections, a profile management utility that automatically switches network, security, printer, browser settings and more when users change locations. This essentially allows users to “speed-dial” a network. Access Connections extends beyond the operating system to allow users to set profiles for different locations, such as office Ethernet connections or wireless connections in the home, airline lounge though a wireless wide area network or coffee shop through a wireless hot spot. For businesses, Access Connections reduces the need for users to deal with the complexities of managing connection settings and also reduces reliance on remote support.

Layered Security Solution Expands Password Management By 2007, 80 percent of organizations will reach the password breaking point and will need to strengthen user authentication with alternative security methods, according to Gartner.[1]

To help reduce help-desk calls and complement password management available through Internet Explorer on Windows Vista, Lenovo has customized its built-in Client Security Solution to provide the most complete, multi-layered approach to protecting sensitive business and personal data on the PC.

Lenovo’s ThinkVantage Password Manager enables secure access to the entire hardware system. Coupled with integrated fingerprint readers on many ThinkPad notebooks, Lenovo provides a unique hardware-software combination to help protect vital security information like passwords, encryption keys and electronic credentials, while helping to guard against unauthorized user access to data. To date, Lenovo has shipped more than three million systems with integrated fingerprint readers.
