RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – January 9, 2008 – SAS and Lenovo today announced a partnership to bring SAS’ award-winning Web-based Curriculum Pathways® educational software and Lenovo’s leading ThinkPad notebook PCs to students in K-12 classrooms across the country. The agreement provides a unique solution to school systems integrating select models of Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks for 1:1 digital learning environments with a broad range of SAS inSchool educational content.

“SAS and Lenovo share a desire to improve education in this country,” said Kathy Lee, General Manager, SAS Education Practice. “K-12 students are immersed in technology and the Internet, yet most teaching environments haven’t changed for generations. This partnership will help match learning environments to the strengths and interests of today’s children.”

Many schools are choosing 1:1 learning environments where PCs are easily accessed by teachers and students. Daviess County Public Schools’ in northern Kentucky is equipping every high school student with a notebook PC by the 2008-2009 school year.

“Through our eLearning Project, we’ve integrated the Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks and SAS Curriculum Pathways across all of our subject areas for the past three years,” said Susan Smith, Technology Coordinator, Daviess County Public Schools. “Our students and teachers have embraced the easy-to-use, reliable technology, making full use of its multimedia functions, interactivity and wireless capabilities to enrich our students’ learning in the classroom and at home.”

Curriculum Pathways is used in 1:1 environments at Cary Academy (Cary, N.C.); eighth grade classrooms at Centennial Middle School on the N.C. State University campus (Raleigh, N.C.); and Hunt High School (Wilson County, N.C.). Lenovo supports 1:1 learning environments with ThinkPad notebooks at St. Mary’s School (Raleigh, N.C.); Columbus School for Girls (Columbus, Ohio); and DeSales High School (Louisville, Ky.).

“To effectively compete and contribute in a global society, students need 21st century skills. Technology is vital in enhancing education and empowering teachers with tools to help students develop critical thinking skills, especially in grades 5-12,” said Tom Looney, Vice President and General Manager, Lenovo North America. “As a new world company, Lenovo believes in providing a comprehensive, integrated solution to help students develop these essential skills.”
