Lenovo celebrated 20 years of globalization—and two decades of calling North Carolina its home—with a full year of celebrations for employees and the community in 2025.

When Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC Division in 2005, the company established one of two global headquarters in Morrisville, North Carolina. For 20 years, the Triangle region of NC has played an integral role in Lenovo’s success and innovation, locally and on the global scale. To show appreciation to the community that welcomed us as partners, neighbors, and friends, Lenovo hosted a series of events and partnered with local businesses to commemorate the milestone.

The celebrations began when more than 2,000 North America employees attended a minor league baseball game where Lenovo North America President Ryan McCurdy threw out the first pitch to officially kick off the 20th anniversary festivities. Other employee celebrations included concert and sporting event ticket giveaways, a skate night hosted with the Carolina Hurricanes at the Lenovo Center, and an exciting social media contest where two lucky employees and their guests attended the F1 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Canada.

But the celebrations extended beyond just employees! In partnership with the NC TECH Association, Lenovo and other tech companies in the region celebrated North Carolina Governor Josh Stein’s proclamation naming May 11 as North Carolina Technology Day. As the cooler weather rolled in during autumn, Lenovo and partners 321 Coffee and Intel hosted a block party attended by more than 500 members of the Triangle community.

To further celebrate the 20th Anniversary, Lenovo also partnered with local small businesses to create Lenovo-themed sweet and savory treats and then pre-paid for these items so that they were free for the public. It was not only a fun way to celebrate 20 years of calling the Triangle home but also drove traffic to the small businesses that are the lifeblood of the local community.

The celebrations concluded with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Executive Briefing Center at the Morrisville headquarters, reaffirming Lenovo’s long-term commitment to the region.

The past 20 years in North America, and at the North Carolina campus, have been key drivers to Lenovo’s success and the mission of developing Smarter Technology for All and will remain so for decades to come.
