Every October, Lenovo spends the month celebrating global diversity and honoring different cultures and customs throughout a series of weekly events around the world hosted by each of our global Employee Resources Groups (ERGs). Lenovo’s Global Diversity Awareness Month started four years ago and focuses on promoting inclusion across cultures, disabilities, LGBTQ, immigration, and more.

HOLA (Hispanic of Lenovo Association)

To kick off the celebration, the HOLA (Hispanic of Lenovo Association) ERG based in Morrisville, NC hosted a “Diaspora” event to represent the dispersion of Latinos into new communities where they remain connected through their shared culture.

“This month is about a diverse and strong community celebrating the similarities and differences that empower us to support each other all the time, that make us feel at home every time we meet someone from our country, that make us have that sense of belonging,” says Rafael Fernandes, Sr. Order Fulfilment Specialist at Lenovo.

Women in Lenovo Leadership (WILL)

Women in Lenovo Leadership (WILL) EMEA hosted panel discussions highlighting women in IT, how to succeed in a corporation, self-love, and the importance of sound-healing therapy.

LGBTQ

The EMEA LGBTQ ERG hosted their first LGBTQ Human Library. The Human Library is a safe place to understand the difficulty of coming out in Eastern Europe. The event was also a way to shine a light on the inclusive environment Lenovo has provided for employees through Diversitas, Bratislava’s diversity-focused ERG. The LGBTQ EMEA ERG also hosted the first LGBTQ & EMEA Group meeting, where leaders shared experiences and brainstormed new incentives to support the LGBTQ community across EMEA.

NEMO (New and Expecting Mothers)

In Morrisville, the WILL US and NEMO (New and Expecting Mothers) ERGs came together to support the fight against breast cancer by taking part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk in North Raleigh. The following week, the groups co-hosted a Wellness Talk and Walk to inform employees about benefits through Cigna and healthy eating tips, then ended the event with a mile walk.

LEAD (Lenovo Employees of Asian Decent)

The celebration of awareness and diversity did not stop there, as the LEAD (Lenovo Employees of Asian Decent) ERG hosted the Diwali celebration relay across three US campuses in Morrisville, Chicago and Santa Clara for our fourth week of Global Diversity Month. Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is traditionally celebrated by Hindus to symbolize the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The events in three campuses all featured delicious Indian themed food and desserts, craft-making, music, and even dancing.

BLAST (Black Leaders Achieving Success in Technology)

Lenovo closed our 2019 Global Diversity Month with a celebration in Morrisville. The BLAST (Black Leaders Achieving Success in Technology) ERG honored global birthday traditions with a dessert tasting as Lenovo celebrated its 35th anniversary!

Lenovo is committed to embracing and celebrating the diversity of our global employees not just each October, but throughout the entire year. Check out more details on Lenovo’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
