Research Triangle Park, NC – May 19, 2021 – Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) has once again been named a Gartner Top 25 Global Supply Chain, an elite annual list encompassing some of the world’s leading brands in the retail, manufacturing, and distribution sectors. Ranking at #16, the recognition highlights Lenovo’s leadership as a purpose-driven organization and operational center of excellence in the global supply chain community.
In its 17th year, the roster of supply chain leaders demonstrated honorees’ integrated approach to purpose supporting “green” initiatives and people-related programs, using technology to enable automated and seamless customer experiences at scale, and navigating the challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with a customer-first dedication.
As a returning company to the top 25, Lenovo was cited as a stand-out performer in customer-driven business transformation, noted for embracing the use of advanced technologies like 5G, blockchain, and artificial intelligence to optimize the delivery of products and solutions to customers across 180 markets.
““Lenovo is an interesting company,” says Mike Griswold, vice president team manager with the Gartner supply chain practice. “There’s probably examples where they would fit in all three of these trends. They’re a strong believer and developer of innovative solutions, often adopting emerging technologies internally to optimize their own complex supply chain. If you think about the Lenovo supply chain; 30+ manufacturing sites, 2,000 suppliers, lots and lots of products across 180 markets – the ability to orchestrate across that and still have an eye on the customer is pretty impressive. I would also say, and probably the reason we landed them in this trend on customer-driven business transformation, is they’re just relentlessly focused on the customer experience. And they do that through the use of some really innovative technologies that, I think, everyone has heard of, but probably not everyone is as aggressively pursuing these technologies as Lenovo. So big data analytics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, Internet of Things, 5G block chain, all of these with an eye towards ‘How do we deliver that positive customer experience?’ ”
Lenovo navigated the challenges of the past 18 months to become the industry’s first to resume production during the pandemic while continuing to protect employees globally, crediting its agility and global manufacturing footprint of 30+ factories around the world as the reason it was able to continue to serve customers during the most challenging of times.
Lenovo also continues to demonstrate world-class corporate stewardship through sustainability and social impact efforts, setting aggressive sustainability targets, joining the Science Based Targets initiative and UN’s CEO Water Mandate, and committing to cut scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.
The Supply Chain Top 25 ranking comprises two main components: business performance and opinion. Business performance in the form of public financial and ESG (environmental, social, governance) data provides a view into how companies have performed in the past, while the opinion component offers an eye to future potential and reflects leadership in the supply chain community. These two components are combined into a total composite score.
